Pacing Guides

What are pacing guides?

Think of pacing guides as a detailed calendar.  It arranges academic standards and related information in such a way that all standards are taught and time for students to achieve grade level mastery is provided by the end of the school year.  In other words, it helps us make sure we teach all the skills and knowledge a student needs during the school year.

The use of pacing guides ensures equity of instruction across the district. For example, if a student changes schools throughout the year they will receive instruction on all academic content standards.  This is one way that we reduce the academic gap of students.

How can I use pacing guides as a student or a family member?

Pacing guides can be helpful to know the big picture.  Why are we learning these standards?  By learning these skills or understanding this knowledge, how will that connect to future learning?  If a student has questions about homework, or if they are studying for a test, pacing guides can help families know what the student will be assessed on.
